The British High Commission in Dhaka celebrated the official birthday of King Charles III of the United Kingdom and the coronation of the King and Queen in the capital.
Speaking at a reception held at a hotel on Wednesday evening, British High Commissioner Sarah Cook said, “I am delighted to host this reception to celebrate the official birthday of King Charles III and the coronation of the King and Queen.
He said, “The UK and Bangladesh enjoy a strong partnership based on our long history and deep people-to-people ties. Besides, the British monarch is the head of the Commonwealth family.”
Cook added, “Thank you for our partnership. We are making grants to support women’s empowerment and climate justice programs in Bangladesh through youth participation. King Charles is a strong supporter of youth, community, sustainability and diversity. We honor him. Local Government of
Bangladesh , Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md. Tajul Islam attended the event as the guest of honor.
Dignitaries from the Government of Bangladesh, Bangladesh National Parliament, diplomatic corps and representatives from the fields of business, commerce, social development, academia, industry, culture, media and sports attended the celebration.
The theme of the event in King’s honor was “Youth, Community, Diversity and Sustainability” .
A significant portion of the funds raised through the event will be used to support youth empowerment of women in leadership and climate advocacy across Bangladesh through Youthnet for Climate Justice and Wave Foundation for Women in Leadership.
