Staff correspondent :
Additional Inspector General of Police and Chief of Highway Police Shahabuddin Khan said that all preparations have been made to ensure the safety of people at home during Eid. Police are working to make the Eid journey comfortable and smooth.
He said, ‘This year’s Eid is a little different. At this time animal vehicles move more. Animal markets are located near and adjacent to the highway. Police are working on the ground to address these challenges. The local administration, the district administration, along with the tenants of the huts, are preparing to ensure a comfortable Eid trip this time as well.’
He said these things to reporters while visiting the Dhaka-Tangail highway and Bangabandhu Bridge on Thursday afternoon.
In response to a question from journalists, Shahabuddin Khan said, ‘We do not only work with unfit and expired vehicles before Eid. We work with these vehicles constantly. Unfit and expired vehicles are constantly being dumped. Last May, 25,000 cases were filed against such vehicles. Besides, many cars have been impounded. Due to these measures, the last Eid has been a comfortable Eid journey so far. We have been able to give a gift of traffic jam and safe Eid.’
He said, ‘laws are being strictly enforced against various crimes including fitness and unregistered vehicles and licences. This continuity continues even now. I hope to get the benefit of it this time too.’
He further said, ‘Even if good cars break down immediately, action will be taken for them. We have kept the number of owners of all highway vehicle repair workshops. We also have efforts for immediate recovery of broken down vehicles. Vehicles that cannot be started will be removed with a wrecker.’
Highway Police Gazipur Region Superintendent of Police Mostafizur Rahman, Tangail District Superintendent of Police Sarkar Mohammad Kaiser, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Md. Sharfuddin, Kalihati Police Station OC Mollah Azizur Rahman, Bangabandhu Setu East Police Station OC Safiqul Islam, Elenga Highway Police Outpost Incharge Zahid Hasan, Traffic Inspector Rafiqul Islam etc. were present at this time.
