Staff correspondent :Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP’s main strategy is to create chaos in the country and foil the next elections.
“The main strategy of BNP is to foil the polls and to create anarchy across the country. And it is clear in the statement of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir,” he said, replying to a query of reporters at the meeting room of the ministry at Secretariat here.
Earlier, the minister exchanged Eid greetings with journalists on the first working day after the Eid vacation.
Dr Hasan said BNP has been changing their strategy after a few days. Sometimes they announce walkathon while they declare for sit-in programmes at other times, he added.
But their (BNP) main strategy is to foil the polls through creating violence across the country, he said.
Criticising a comment of the BNP secretary general over the resignation of the government, the minister said the US visa policy has announced that the policy will be applicable against those who will obstruct the polls.
Replying to another query over the Jamaat issue, Dr Hasan said Jamaat is in alliance with BNP and the party is the main ally in the alliance. Besides, Jamaat-e-Islami has denied the statement of Mirza Fakhrul Islam, he added.
He said Jamaat is a political party and for this, approval was given to hold a rally. “We have no communication with Jamaat and there is no need to communicate with them,” Dr Hasan said.
About increasing foreign reserve, remittance and JICA assistance, the minister said the Bangladesh Bank has already said that the country’s economy will return to a positive trend soon. It was reflected in last month and the flow of remittance has increased, he added.
He said $202 crore remittances came in one month while the JICA has declared to provide Taka 2,273 crore loan. The economy will be more vibrant in the coming days, said Dr Hasan.
About prices of commodities, the minister said some dishonest traders increase the prices of essentials during any festivals. It creates suffering for the people and actions must be taken against those who are involved with these, he added.
He said the concerned organizations, including the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, are taking proper steps in this regard. The FBCCI is also vocal against them, he added.
“I personally think that rapid action should be taken against those who are involved with this (price hiking). The Prime Minister has already given instructions to take action against them,” said Dr Hasan.
About the drives against illegal IP TV, the information minister said, “We have sent letters to the local administrations to take actions against illegal IP TV and YouTube channels which are disseminating news in exchange of money and defaming people.”
