Stern actions against those responsible for public sufferings: Kamal

Staff correspondent :

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said the government will take legal actions against those who will be responsible for creating public sufferings in the name of political programmes.

“Although the government allowed the BNP to hold political programmes, they do not have rights to create public sufferings,” he said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 40th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Crime Reporters’ Association (CRAB) as the chief guest at Dhaka Reporters Unity here.

Mentioning that the government is not obstructing any political programmes of the BNP, he said “None is being detained without major crimes. Stern actions will be taken against those who will commit crimes, break the laws and create sufferings for the public.”

Chaired by CRAB President Mirza Hemedy Tomal, the function was addressed by Director General of Rapid Action Battalion M Khurshid Hossain and Additional Inspector General and Chief of Highway Police AKM Shahabuddin Khan as special guests. CRAB General Secretary Mamunur Rashid delivered the welcome speech.

Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) President Mursalin Nomani, its general secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel, former general secretary Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo, CRAB ex-president Khairuzzaman Kamal, Abul Hossain and Shakhawat Hossain Badsha were present at the function.

“The law enforcement agencies are trying to prevent arson attacks and vandalism,” Kamal added.

The BNP suddenly came to the movement, he said, adding, “But people have turned away from them because of their past activities. It has been proven that people voted against them in the 2008 and subsequent elections.”

“People will not vote in favour of them (BNP) in the elections. That’s why they are imposing political programmes without considering public sufferings.

The home minister said RAB and police are working to check crimes, while journalists are engaging in the country’s wellbeing, adding, “We are committed to establishing the rule of law. The Prime Minister is working for the welfare of people.

Urging journalists to do objective journalism, he said, “Objective news with the spirit of the War of Liberation of the journalists will uphold the country’s image.”

Later, the home minister released pigeons and hoisted the national flag.

Earlier, the minister alongwith other guests cut a cake marking the founding anniversary of the organization.
