Sirajganj Economic Zone and Australia Bangladesh Business Forum (ABBF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to attract foreign investment. Under this memorandum of understanding, the two organizations will work together to attract investment from Australia and expatriate Bangladeshis living in the Sirajganj Economic Zone and other economic zones.
The agreement was signed in a ceremony organized at Agargaon Beza office in the capital on Wednesday. Director of Sirajganj Economic Zone Dr. Mohammad Kamruzzaman and ABBF President Abdul Khan Ratan signed on behalf of their respective organisations. Beza Executive Chairman Sheikh Yusuf Harun, entrepreneurs of Sirajganj Economic Zone and senior officials of Beza were present on the occasion.
Sheikh Yusuf Haroon congratulated ABBF for signing the MoU and said, “We are creating an investment friendly environment to open new opportunities for investors in Bangladesh and providing land at competitive prices for planned industrialization.”
He said that by attracting domestic and foreign investment, keeping the supply structure strong, fulfilling the domestic demand of the country and continuing the trend of exports is working well.
He said that Beza is cooperating to ensure all services including land acquisition in Sirajganj Economic Zone and it will continue.
It should be noted that Sirajganj Economic Zone is located on 1035.93 acres of land on the banks of Yamuna River in the northern region. This economic zone with good connectivity by road, sea, air and rail has opened a new door of employment for the people of the northern region. This will lead to expansion of import-export and cargo transportation opportunities due to connectivity with India, Nepal and Bhutan through Burimari, Hili and Banglabandhar (Tentulia).
ABBF is a forum of expatriate Bangladeshi businessmen based in Australia with around 600 business establishments under its umbrella. Abdul Khan Ratan, president of the organization, said that as a result of the signing of the memorandum of understanding, new areas of foreign investment will be expanded in Sirajganj Economic Zone.
He said, under this MoU, there are plans to organize seminars in addition to multiple road shows in both countries where investment attraction will be accelerated by presenting planned industrialization opportunities in all economic zones.
