China’s interest in becoming a development partner for Bangladesh

China’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen expressed China’s interest in becoming a development partner for Bangladesh after the 12th national parliamentary election, with a focus on Sylhet.

The ambassador conveyed this during a discussion with Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Anwaruzzaman on Sunday morning.

Yao Wen emphasized the historical significance of Sylhet in Bangladesh’s liberation struggle and its leadership in the tourism sector.

He noted the crucial role Sylhet plays in the tea and agricultural industries, expressing China’s eagerness to support the agricultural sector in the region.

Additionally, China aspires to collaborate with Sylhet in advancing trade, tourism, culture, and education.

The ambassador assured cooperation with Mayor Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury for the multifaceted development of Sylhet.

Mayor Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury highlighted the positive impact of the Bangladesh-China friendship on the overall development of Bangladesh. Recognizing China’s significant contributions, he sought China’s cooperation for the development of Sylhet.

The mayor expressed his desire to construct a complex named after the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and conveyed his expectation of financial support from the Chinese government.

City Corporation Secretary Fahima Yasmin, Chief Engineer Nur Azizur Rahman and other officials were present.
