At the quarterly lunch meeting organized by the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) on Wednesday, he said, “Not only for diversification of export products, fairs will be organized abroad in Poyala Baisakh to highlight the industrial culture of Bengali.” Besides, various programs will be taken throughout the year, so that we can highlight the handicrafts abroad. For this reason, instructions have been given to all our commercial counselors in 23 countries.
MCCI President Kamran T Rahman delivered the welcome speech at the lunch meeting organized at Motijheel Chamber Building in the capital. Among others present on the occasion were MCCI former president Barrister Nihad Kabir, PRAN-RFL Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, Meghna Group Chairman Mustafa Kamal, Transcom Group CEO and MCCI Vice President Simin Rahman, PRAN-RFL Group Director Uzma Chowdhury, MCCI Sr. Vice President Habibullah Karim and others were present.
The state minister said, in the case of those who work with handicrafts or leather, we want to add two things this time. We want to recognize those who are artisans and recognize the place of manufacture (GI) of the product.
He said, ‘If we cannot recognize those who are working on handicrafts for their livelihood as artists, then it is not possible. We have therefore decided to give GI recognition to the artisans and products.’ It should be noted that the government has declared handicrafts as the product of the year this year.
Regarding the market management of daily necessities, State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam said that various initiatives have been taken to bring changes in the market management. As a result of these initiatives, there will be many changes in market management, which will be visible from the coming months.
He said, ‘We are managing the market by bringing all the ministries together at the direction of the Prime Minister. The change will be visible in the next 1 month. Gradually, we have taken measures to determine the price of everything.’
He further said, I am not in favor of fixing the market only by conducting raids. I am in favor of controlling prices by increasing the supply of goods.
Stating that the price and the name of the rice will be mentioned on the bag of rice from next March, the state minister said that the price will be printed on the bag of rice for the first time from March 1. Con variety of rice will have all the details. The Food Ministry is working on it. The government is going to create a simple market for everyone.
Regarding increasing the supply of daily commodities through government marketing organization TCB, he said that the government is selling 5 daily commodities to 1 crore families every month through TCB. These products will be distributed twice in the coming month of Ramadan. He said that it is also being considered whether some products can be exported through TCB.
Ahsanul Islam said, we believe the market depends on supply and demand. Farmers do not get the price of their produce even during the peak season. We will work on these through TCB. New program ‘One Village, One Product’ has been taken up. Through this we will bring certain products to the upazila, district and from there to Dhaka. Besides, e-commerce will be included in the sales management of these products. He expressed hope that market management will become much easier through this.
On the occasion, MCCI President Kamran T Rahman mentioned that the introduction of ‘one stop service’ is a good step to facilitate business and reduce the cost of doing business. He demanded a business-friendly budget for the next financial year and enactment of an up-to-date company law.
