No foreign pressure on govt regarding polls: Anisul

Staff Correspondent:
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq yesterday said the government will not go out of the constitution over the next general election and there is no foreign pressure regarding this.”The next general election will be participatory, free and neutral. The government wants all the political parties to participate in it,” he said while talking to newsmen emerging from a meeting with high commissioners of seven European Union (EU) nations, at his secretariat office.”The Law Ministry has received an application to extend the tenure of interim release of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia by suspending her jail term, but it is yet to be presented before me. It will be sent back to the Home Ministry after giving my opinion on that,” he said, replying a question on this issue. The law minister said he would inform the journalists about this after disposing of the matter, adding, “I still don’t know what is there in that file.”While replying another question on the permanent bail of Begum Khaleda Zia, Anisul Huq said it is the jurisdiction of the court, not of the government to allow bail. You would be able to learn about the application soon, but I think the two existing conditions of taking treatment in Dhaka and not to travel abroad, will continue,” he further said. The law minister said he talked with the foreign envoys on different issues, including Digital Security Act and proposed Data Protection Act.
