Students of Jagannath University (JnU) have staged a protest rally and human chain against the High Court’s order to reinstate quotas in first and second class government jobs.

The protest began at 11:00 AM on Thursday (June 6) in front of the main gate of Jagannath University. The students subsequently held a brief assembly. After the assembly, they marched through Victoria Park and Banglabazar, returning to the main gate for further demonstrations. The protesting students mentioned that if the quota system is not abolished, they would call for larger demonstrations at any time.

During the protest, students chanted slogans such as “No place for discrimination in Bangabandhu’s Bengal,” “We reject the quota system,” “No place for quotas in the land of the Liberation War,” “We do not accept the High Court’s verdict,” and “We reject the quota system.”

The protesting students stated, “A 56% quota in government jobs cannot be part of any country’s normal education system. Imposing such a discriminatory quota on students amid the country’s vast unemployment problem will only exacerbate the issue. We honor the freedom fighters; they are the nation’s heroes. However, their descendants, including grandchildren, getting jobs through quotas without effort is unacceptable. We are dissatisfied with this verdict.”
