Md. Mehedi Hasan, a 23-year-old student at Rajshahi University (RU), tragically passed away after falling ill during a cricket match at the university’s Sabas Bangladesh ground on Sunday afternoon (December 1).

Mehedi, a student of the 2019-20 academic year student of the Department of Law and Land Administration at Rajshahi University, from Chapainawabganj district, complained of feeling unwell and asked for water while playing cricket around 4 PM. Moments later, he experienced seizures and lost consciousness. His friends promptly took him to the RU Medical Center, and he was later referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University, Professor Saleh Hasan Naqib, along with Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Mohammad Main Uddin and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Md. In a joint statement, they prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased and extended their heartfelt condolences to his grieving family.

Professor Sahal Uddin, the Chairman of the Law and Land Administration Department, said, “Mehedi suddenly collapsed during the game. Despite quick efforts to provide medical care, he passed away on the way to RMCH. It is suspected to be a stroke.”

After Isha’s prayers at the University Central Jama Masjid, Mehedi’s body was sent to his village in Chapainawabganj for burial.
