Anti Terrorism Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan
Police (DMP) arrested 10 Islamic extremists including six female operatives
from a den in Kulaura police station of the district today.
The arrested were identified as Shariful Islam, 40, Hafij Ullah, 25, Khairul
Islam, 22, Rafiul Islam, 22, Meghna, 17, Shapla Begum, 22, Maisha Islam, 20,
Shanjida Khatun, 18, Amina Begum, 40, and Habiba binte Shafiqul, 20. They
went to the hideout from different districts of the country.
The special unit of the police also recovered 2.5 kilograms (Kgs) of
explosives, 50 detonators, training manual, sourds, commando boots and cash
from their possession in the operation Hillside.
The Counter Terrorism Unit of DMP surrounded the den, a newly built house
that is 228 kilometers far from the capital Dhaka, in frontier Tattriuli
village in Kalaura Police Station around 8 pm last night.
Sources said around 20 to 25 extremists used to live in the house built in an
acre of land. A team of the police took part in the operation and caught the
militants this morning. Sensing the police presence, the rest fled the spot.
“Police have informed that a new extremist group has radicalised a large
number of people,” Mohammad Asaduzzaman, chief of the specialised unit of
Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said, adding that those people have left their
homes for hizrat.
He also said, “We have been informed that the extremist group has set up
their hideout in one of the hills of Moulvibazar.”
