Interhall Debate Competition in Rajshahi University

RU Correspondent: Rajshahi University (RU) commenced the Interhall Debate Competition-2024 on Monday at the Shaheed Sukhranjan Samaddar Student-Teacher Cultural Center (TSCC).

The event, organized by the Student Counseling Office, aims to revitalize cultural activities beyond the syllabus, fostering academic excellence and nurturing students’ latent talents.

Nine-Day Competition Inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Professor Md. Sultan-ul-Islam today afternoon.

Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Md. Sultan-ul-Islam, in his presidential speech, acknowledged the challenges in organizing the debate competition after an extended period. He commended the initiators for their efforts, expressing confidence in the success of the event. Stressing the importance of spreading the virtues of debate competition, he called on teachers to actively involve students. He emphasized that the success of this initiative depends on widespread participation.

In his welcome speech, student-adviser Professor Md. Jahangir Alam Saud highlighted the university’s efforts to overcome the cultural stagnation experienced post-COVID-19. He expressed optimism that the inter-hall quiz competition would invigorate students and help develop their hidden abilities.

The opening ceremony was attended by Professor Md. Asabul Haque, Public Relations Administrator Prof. Pradeep Kumar Pandey, Director of Education and Research Institute Prof. Dulal Chandra Biswas, Convener of Principal Council Prof. Md. Jahangir Hossain, syndicate member Mahmudul Hasan, and principals from various halls.

The debate competition, structured in a parliamentary manner, will unfold in four stages: Knock Out Round, Quarter Final, Semi Final, and Final. Teams from 17 residential halls enthusiastically participated in the event, engaging in spirited debates. Esteemed marketer-educators will serve as judges for the competition, providing valuable insights and assessments.

Following the opening ceremony, the knock-out rounds witnessed intense debates between Bangmata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall vs. Syed Ameer Ali Hall, Sher Bangla Fazlul Haque Hall vs. Taapsee Rabeya Hall, and Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall vs. Shaheed Shamsujjoha Hall.

The Interhall Debate Competition-2024 promises to be a platform for intellectual exchange, promoting critical thinking and communication skills among the students at Rajshahi University.
