National insurance day observed at Rajshahi University
Desk Report: On the occasion of National Insurance Day in Rajshahi University (RU), the Banking and Insurance Department organized various programs, including a colorful rally and a discussion session, with the theme “Insure for a Secure Bangladesh.” The event commenced with a vibrant rally showcasing diverse floats, slogans, and banners, starting from Rabindranath Tagore Academic Building’s business studies area, traversing through Paris Road, Kazla Gate, Main Gate via the primary road of the campus, and concluding at Shamsuzzoha Square.
Nearly four hundred students, along with faculty, staff, and officials of the department, participated in the event. The concluding discussion session, presided over by the Chairman of the Banking and Insurance Department, Mr. Tohidul Alam, highlighted the government’s proactive policies to expand and strengthen insurance accounts, fostering confidence among the populace. He expressed optimism about the forthcoming practical implementations, particularly in enhancing the accessibility of insurance policies through banks.
Former Chairman of the department, Professor Abdul Quddus, attending as the chief guest, emphasized the continuous observance of National Insurance Day since 2020 and applauded the efforts to promote insurance coverage in line with the vision of a Smart Bangladesh led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He stressed the role of students in becoming skilled human assets in the field of insurance, contributing to the sustained development of the sector.
In addition to the festivities, a special essay competition titled “Insurance in Bangladesh: Challenges and Opportunities” was organized, with the eighth batch student, Sweta Saha, emerging as the winner. She was later honored with the autobiography of the nation’s founding father, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, by the department’s chairman.
The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, marking the culmination of discussions and prize distribution.
