Case filed against elder sister for grabbing the younger sister’s property

Staff Correspondent: After the death of Haji Abdul Quader Miah of North Badda area of the capital, it has been alleged that after the death of his father the eldest daughter Nilufa Akhtar, depriving her younger sister Murshida Akhtar, showed herself to be the sole heir and snatched property worth crores of taka by deeding it in her name.

A case has been filed in the 1st Joint District Judge Court of Dhaka to establish own rights in the property. Murshida Akhter filed the case as plaintiff (Case No-803/2023). In the case, a total of eight people including elder sister Nilufa Akhtar were made defendants.
Murshida Akhtar has also filed an application with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on February 22 to get back her fair share of her ancestral property and to take action against those responsible for investigating the case of embezzlement.

When Haji Abdul Quader Miah of Badda area of the capital died, he left two daughters and a wife. He was a resident of 38 ward area of Dhaka North City Corporation. In the certificate given by 38 Ward Councilor Sheikh Selim said that the deceased Haji Abdul Quader Mia left behind two daughters and a wife at the time of his death.

It is said that before his death, Abdul Quader Mia did not divide any of his property among the heirs. His properties include a seven-storied house, 10 kathas of land with two-storied Haji Abdul Quader Market, 15 kathas of land with a 1-storied house and 5 kathas of land in Gazipur Mauza. Abdul Quader Mia had no son. So the heirs of this property owns his two daughters and wife.
Murshida Akhtar appealed to 38 Ward Councilor on 10th October 2022 requesting fair distribution and settlement of her father’s property. Taking the matter into consideration, the 38 Ward Councilor gave notice to the younger sister Murshida Akhtar and elder sister Nilufa to appear at the office of the 38 Ward Councilor on October 13, 2022.

Both parties appeared there as per notice. In the arbitration meeting there, the younger sister Murshida Akhtar complained that after the death of her father, her elder sister Nilufa showed herself as the sole heir and deprived her of all the properties of her father.
On the other hand, Nilufa said that her father had given her all the property. In view of this, Nilufa was asked to come back to the 38 Ward Councilor’s office within a week with all the proofs and documents of all the properties that her father had given her.
After that, Nilufa did not appear at 38 Ward Councilor office. Nilufa was asked to call again from the councilor’s office to resolve the issue, but she did not respond. 38 Ward Councilor Sheikh Salim said, because Nilufa did not contact us, it was not possible for us to solve the matter. He said, therefore, we asked the victim to approach the law regarding this matter.
Murshida Akhtar also said that on February 25, 2022, a meeting was held with relatives and neighbors about the distribution of property. On that day, Imran, the son of elder sister Nilufa Akhtar, held a divisive meeting with the local goons.
Later, Murshida Begum came to know that all the properties were registered by her elder sister Nilufa Akhtar, making herself the only daughter of her father. Document No. 8022, 5866. When relatives and neighbors were told about this, they were shocked and surprised. Nilufa and her son Imran used threats and terror to stop them.
The victim, Murshida Akhtar, has sought the help of the media and the relevant circles of the country in establishing the truth by investigating the cases of creating documents through forgery and using terrorists to show the truth from the inheritance of the father’s property.
