A fake army major was arrested by the police as cheating after falling in love with a girl from Rajshahi University (RU) on Saturday.

Chintaharan Biswas (39) was arrested, son of Mahendra Biswas of Tholpara, Mirzapur police station in Tangail district.

The police officer said that Chintaharan sometimes disguised himself as an army officer, as a senior officer of the police and his relatives used to lure and deceive the common people. His main target was women. He used to do this cheating by trapping him in love. There have been such allegations against him in the past. As a result, he has been arrested in the case of impersonating a government official and cheating.

According to the police, Chintaharan despite being a follower of the Hindu religion but acting as a Muslim, opened a fake Facebook ID in the name of Rowan Sikdar. Five months ago, he got acquainted with a student of Rajshahi University using this Facebook ID. He then introduced himself as an army major and said that he was doing his Ph.D. in California under the army. The father is a retired army officer, the elder brother is a superintendent of police, and the siblings, and the sister-in-law are doctors and developed a love relationship with the victim.

Also, Chintaharan develops a friendship with the family by showing the temptation of marriage. By luring the victim’s brother-in-law to get a job in the Prime Minister’s office, he took Tk 2 lakh through various channels from last February 27 and kept pressing for another Tk 3 lakh without giving him the job. The victim and the family doubted they reported the matter to the police. Later, the police found out the real identity of the fake army officer Rowan Sikder and brought the accused from Tangail to Rajshahi. He was later arrested from the bus terminal area of Rajshahi and arrested at night in a cheating case.
