ET Desk: Eminent banker Shabbir Ahmed Al-Arafah has been appointed as Additional Managing Director (AMD) of Islami Bank Plc. Before being appointed to this post, he was serving as Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of the bank from 8 April 2019. Prior to joining Al-Arafah Islami Bank, he was working as Additional Deputy Managing Director at One Bank.
Shabbir Ahmed started his career by joining BASIC Bank as a probationary officer in 1989. Later he held important positions in IFIC Bank, Dutch Bangla Bank, American Express Bank, The City Bank and National Housing Finance and Investment Ltd. He has vast experience in banking operations especially investment, foreign trade and marketing activities.
He has received training in banking from many local and international institutes and has participated in various seminars, symposiums, workshops and training programs related to banking and financial sector held at home and abroad. Shabbir Ahmed holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Dhaka University’s Department of Economics.
