ET Desk:  Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir have assured the interim government of extending support to restore law and order and ensure security of the public life and properties.

“Leaders and activist of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir have been playing an important role so that no notorious group or miscreants can make the situation instable by launching attacks on households, places of worship and properties of minority groups,” said a Jamaat press release here this evening.

The Islamic political party issued the press release after a meeting with the Chief Advisor to interim government Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus at the chief adviser’s office in the city.

An 11 member delegation, led by Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, attended the meeting while Law Advisor Professor Dr Asif Nazrul, Adviser for Industries Adilur Rahman Khan, Adviser for Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology Md Nahid Islam and Adviser for Youth and Sports Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan were present.

During the meeting, Jamaat urged the interim government to take effective measures to bring the law and order situation under control across the country and withdraw all the political cases filed during the Sheikh Hasina’s government.

Jamaat also called the government to file cases against those who committed genocide to suppress the anti-discrimination student movement and terminate all the dishonest and corrupt officials in all sectors.

The white paper on corruption of the previous government should be published and all the corrupt ministers, lawmakers and officials must be brought to book, Jammat said, adding, “The officials who have been deprived during the previous regime in terms of promotion and other facilities must be given promotion and prestigious posting”.

A total of 57 Bangladeshis, who waged movement in the UAE in support of the quota reform movement, should be rehabilitated with dignity, it said.

Salim Uddin were present, among others
