ET Desk: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Mohammad Dr. Shafiqur Rahman today called for uniting all people to build a discrimination and exploitation-free country.
“We want to build a discrimination and exploitation-free country. For this, we need to unite the 18 crore people. We will not let the nation be divided on the basis of party or religion further,” he said, addressing a rally at Gazipur Rajbari ground as the chief guest.
He also exchanged views with the families of the martyrs of the student-led mass uprising.
Jamaat central executive council member principal Muhammad Izzat Ullah, Dhaka North region team member and former Ameer of Gazipur district unit Abul Hasem Khan, central working council member Dr Khalilur Rahman Madani, Ameer of Gazipur District Jamaat Dr Jahangir Alam, Naib-e-Ameer of Gazipur Mahanagar Jamaat Md Khairul Hasan, Metropolitan Assistant Secretaries Md Hossain Ali and Md Afzal Hossain, former President of Chhatra Shibir and Publicity Secretary of Gazipur Mahanagar Jamaat Salah Uddin Ayubia and Gazipur Metropolitan President of Chhatra Shibir Md Abu Hanif were present at the rally as special guests.
Gazipur Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Professor Mohammad Jamal Uddin presided over the rally while Metropolitan Secretary Abu Sayeed Mohammad Farooq moderated it.
The Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer said people do not want any judge who cannot deliver fair verdicts in the court.
He said: “We need social security where every citizen can sleep peacefully in society, every child can get his or her just rights, including health services.”
Shafiqur said, “We don’t want to see the martyrs of the movement with any party identity.”
“All martyred and injured brothers belong to all of us,” he said, adding that the government should take responsibility of their families.
He urged the government to provide government jobs to at least one member of every martyr’s family.
The Jamaat chief called for including of the history of the martyrs of the student-led mass uprising in textbooks so that children can know in detail about them.
“We have to give them (martyrs and injured ones) the dignity they deserve. They did their jobs for the country. Now we should do it for them,” he added.
A total of 11 top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, including former Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami and former Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed, were killed in the name of justice, he said.
The tragic death of Allama Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, the ‘Bird of the Qur’an’, cannot be accepted anyway, he added.
“We want to see the trial of not only the killing of our leaders and workers but also the trial of the killings of the leaders of all parties and innocent people,” he said, adding that those who were involved in the murder should also be tried.
