Vacancy in president’s post to create constitutional crisis: Salahuddin

ET Desk: BNP Standing Committee Member Salah Uddin Ahmed  today said that the vaccuncy in the President’s post would create state and constitutional crisis.

“The cohorts of the deposed fascist government are hatching  conspiracy to create a vacancy in the post of the President of the Republic,” he said and urged all to remain alert o foil the conspiracy.

“The post of President is a constitutional post or the highest constitutional post of the republic. If it becomes vacant at this moment, a constitutional vacancy would be created leading to state crisis,” he said while replying to a query at BNP Chairperson’s political office at Gulshan here this afternoon.

Salah Uddin said it is not desirable for the nation if the transition to democracy is delayed or obstructed by creating any state crisis. “We are united and will face all these conspiracies all together, ” he added.

Asked about whether BNP wants the resignation or removal of President Mohammed Shahabuddin, the BNP leader categorically said, “Vacancy in the post of the President will create a state crisis at this moment  .   .  . will create a constitutional vacuum, which is not desirable for the nation.”

Earlier, party leaders Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salah Uddin Ahmed, led by BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, met Chief Adviser Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus at State Guest House Jamuna in the morning.
