NBR conducts campaign to convince taxpayers to submit tax returns online: NBR Chairman

ET Desk: National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan today said that the revenue board has engaged in massive campaign to convince the taxpayers to submit their tax returns through online.

“After the submission of returns, the taxpayers can get their acknowledgment slips and certificates instantly,” he said.

The NBR chairman was addressing a press conference at the NBR Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon area this afternoon.

To make the tax return submission through online, he said there is no need to submit or upload any document while anyone can submit the e-return without any document.

“For ease of doing business, there is no need to provide any document with the e-return.” he added.

Rahman, also the Secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD), said there is no such need for the taxpayers to go to the tax offices to submit their income tax returns since e-return submission facility is available.

“We want to facilitate and encourage the taxpayers not to come to the tax offices and thus submit their return (through online) easily and without any cost. This is so convenient…,”

He mentioned that the NBR is talking to the respective authorities not to charge the online tax payment on percentage basis. “We will try to address the issue,” he said.

The NBR chairman said that they are seriously working to make submitting corporate tax returns through online a success. “Our ultimate target is to reduce our taxpayers’ visits to the tax offices and gradually lowering it to zero.”

He also mentioned that the NBR is gradually going to ensure all the necessities of the taxpayers through online and create an automated environment.

Rahman said the prime task of his revenue board is to bring forgone or lost revenue in the national exchequer.

“It’s actually our main job, definitely we’re working, we’re working towards that direction,” he said.

Foregone revenue, also known as lost revenue, is the revenue that an agency expected to receive but did not receive due to an external event.

In this connection, he mentioned that the NBR is closely working with other government agencies like BFIU and law enforcement agencies.
