RUCSU spend 13lakh 37k in the last 5 years

Rajshahi University Central Student Union (RUCSU) has been in limbo for almost 34 years. The last RUCSU election was held in the academic year 1989-90. Although RUCSU has not been active for a long time, the university authorities have been collecting TK 15 per year charged to each student and spending in various sectors.

According to the information obtained under the Right to Information Act (2009), more than 13 lakh 37k taka have been spent from the RUCSU Fund in the last 5 years.

According to the information, The birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of Independence the inter-hall sports competition was held in 2021.

These competitions included athletics, handball, and volleyball tournaments, in which both male and female students participated. 13,37,588 taka were spent on the RUCSU Fund in this sports event. However, the university authorities have not given any information about how much money is currently deposited in the RUCSU Fund.

RUCSU employee Sirajul Islam said RUCSU funds money spent in all these sectors as the former treasurer of Md. Zafar Sadiq ordered with a voucher. He also said that money has been spent from this fund several times before. Moreover, must need permission from VC to spend money.

In each academic year, Students have to pay different fees. Internet Fee, Cultural Fee, Sports Fee, Sports Council Fee etc. Out of this, 500 takas are charged from students for admission in 2nd year, and 200 takas from 3rd and 4th-year students for sports council fees.

On the other hand, the sports fee is TK 100 per year for the 2nd year and TK 50 per year for the 3rd and 4th year students. Apart from this, 30 takas per year is charged from each resident and non-resident student of all years for the hall sports fee.

Currently the vice-chancellor of the university. When asked Saleh Hasan Naqib, he said that he did not know whether money could be spent in any other sector from the RUCSU Fund. However, he would discuss this matter with the treasurer later.
