Gazipur city polls bright example of free, fair election: Razzaq

Staff correspondent :

Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzak today said the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls have proved that a free, fair and acceptable election is possible under the current government.

“Gazipur city polls were held in free, fair and credible manner as that’s what we wanted,” he told the triennial conference of Jubo League at Shahid Smriti Municipal Park in Tangail, an official release said.

Education Minister Dipu Moni, Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, Former State Minister for Telecommunication Tarana Halim, President of Tangail district unit of Awami League and General Secretary Joaherul Islam, MP, among others, were present at the conference.

Razzaq said Awami League is not worried with the results of Gazipur City Corporation elections as it will not have any impact on the national elections.

BNP will not be able to halt the next election through their movement as well as the party will not be able to bring down the elected government, he added.

The next general election will be free, fair and acceptable, Razzaq said, adding, “Despite this, BNP wants to bring an unconstitutional government to power through conspiracy… the administration and law enforcement forces will resist their conspiracy.”
