Jagannath University Correspondent:
Students of Jagannath University (JnU) blocked the Tatibazar intersection in Dhaka, pressing a three-point demand, including transferring the responsibility of the second campus construction to the military.
On Monday (November 4) at noon, students gathered at Tatibazar. They had started assembling at the university campus around 11:30 AM. While protesting, students chanted slogans like, “Accommodation on the second campus, when will the administration provide?”, “Take our blood if needed, but give us our halls,” “Administrative tricks, disaster if Army picks,” and “Hand over the work to the Army if you have any decency.”
The students’ three-point demands are as follows:
1) Bring the project director, appointed during the autocratic regime, under the law and transfer the responsibility to competent Army officers within seven days.
2) The Ministry of Education must release a clear announcement confirming the handover of the second campus project to the military, with a detailed roadmap of the transfer process.
3) Arrange for the immediate acquisition of the remaining 11 acres of land and nullify all agreements related to the old campus made during the autocratic regime.
Physics department’s 15th batch student, Masud Rana, said, “We will not leave the streets until our three-point demand is met. We have left our campus and come to the streets. The streets are now our home, and through this movement, we will achieve our demands. The administration has dangled many promises, but we no longer believe in them. We will forcefully secure our demands through this movement.”
