Govt continues to work for developing poor, disadvantaged people: Bir Bahadur

Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing today said that the current poor-friendly government has continued to work for the development of the poor and disadvantaged people of the country.”The government is building houses with lands for the homeless people. It has continued to distribute cows to improve the socio-economic condition of women alongside distributing various agricultural tools to make women self-reliant in agriculture and household work,” he said.The local lawmaker said these at a rickshaw distribution ceremony among the needy people as the chief guest on Rajar Math premises in Bandarban Sadar here under the joint initiative of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs and Bandarban Hill District Council, a press release said.He distributed one rickshaw to 20 poor and disadvantaged people each of Bandarban district headquarters as a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the release added. The government has introduced social welfare programme like ‘Ektee Bari Ektee Khamar project’ designed to promote farming and welfare and reduce rural poverty in rural Bangladesh, he said.Bir Bahadur also said that solar panels are being distributed to provide electricity to homes in remote areas.He said the current Awami League (AL)-led government has made many improvements in the communication-system by constructing and repairing roads, bridges, culverts to facilitate the movement of the hilly people.The minister also said that the government has established various educational institutions in the hilly areas for the expansion of education.Highlighting the development of the education system of Bandarban district, Bir Bahadur said that while there were one or two colleges in Bandarban, currently 14 colleges have been established in the 14.5 years in this AL-led government’s tenure.
