INSAN ALI:
Nestled in the heart of Rajshahi University, the Central Library stands as a beacon of knowledge, innovation, and community engagement. Established in 1953, this library has evolved into a crucial resource for students, faculty, and the broader community, reflecting the dynamic spirit of one of the nation’s leading public research universities.
Rajshahi University’s Central Library offers extensive facilities for gathering knowledge, attracting a large number of students and teachers daily. The library operates in two shifts: the first from 9 am to 4 pm and the second from 2 pm to 8 pm. The daily utilization of the library is around 500 researchers and students.
Mahim, a student from the Faculty of Business, expressed some concerns: “We cannot read with personal books, there is a lack of fans in summer, and even if there is AC, it is not working. Officials often keep another person sitting during duty hours, which inconveniences students. Many times, outsiders enter without any checking at the gate.”
He also highlighted the need for more core course books in accounting, economics, business law, and other departments. Mahim suggested that the library should be open seven days a week to better serve its users.
Prottoy, a student of Applied Chemistry, added: “There is no AC in the library, and the fans that are there make a lot of noise. Sometimes academic books are not found. Libraries do not provide proper guidance for finding books online; we need guidance.”
Deputy Librarian Syed Mishfaq Ali acknowledged the challenges: “The library was built for 5,000 students and now serves around 30,000+. We are doing our best with limited manpower. Two departments have been merged into one. The Reference Room, Audiovisual Office, and nine other offices need 115 staff members, but we only have 66 or 67 people and no technicians.”
