A human chain demanding JU student expulsion order canceled in RU

RU Correspondent: Some Students Association of Rajshahi University organized a human chain demanding two Jahangirnagar University student expulsion orders canceled at the intellectual square today.

On February 7, a faction of the university’s Chhatra Union Amartya Roy and Riddha Anindya reportedly painted anti-rape graffiti by removing Bangabandhu’s portrait on the wall of the new arts building of the university.

Naseem Sarkar said the Student League leader of Jahangirnagar University went on a hunger strike, for drawing a caricature of Sheikh Hasina, he has made a revolution. There is so much lawlessness, murder, disappearance, and so much anarchy in the country, that they have no protest against it. What can be said other than their brokers? Caricatures of Ershad, the dictator Ayub, were part of the political culture. Strongly condemn and protest the expulsion of 2 students for this.

Shamim Tripura, a member of Pahari Chhatra Parishad, said, “For drawing anti-rape graffiti in Jahangirnagar University, our comrade has been expelled with anti-state charges. This expulsion case represents the rapists. They are talking like bullies. Through this standard, I demand the expulsion order and withdrawal of the case.”

Bangladesh Student Union Rajshahi University Sangsad Jannatul Naim said, “Today I am standing with a sad heart, last February 3, Chhatra League did a good thing in Jahangirnagar University. The university administration tried to cover up this issue. No mural is permanent, but the current government and university brokers could not accept this. All citizens have freedom of expression in this independent Bangladesh. Murals are a part of the expression.”

“According to the decision of the university syndicate, the case has been filed under state law. I have completed the work on filing the case on behalf of the university with Ashulia police station,” Chief Security Officer Sudipto Shahin told UNB.

In Addition to protesting the incident, two Chhatra League leaders went on a hunger strike for four consecutive days on February 15, demanding the highest punishment for those involved. University Vice Chancellor Prof Md Nurul Alam met the strikers on February 18 and assured them of punishment for those involved.
