History Alumni Conference held in RU

The eleventh biennial conference of the Rajshahi University History Alumni Association took place at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Senate building at 10 am today, Friday. Approximately three hundred alumni participated in this significant event.

The association’s President, Prof. Mahbubur Rahman, presided over the conference, and eminent economist and essayist Prof. Sanat Kumar Saha graced the occasion as the chief guest. Prof. Golam Sabbir Sattar, the Chief Patron of the Association, was present as the guest of honor, along with the Association’s Patron, Prof. Md. Sultan-ul-Islam, and Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof. Humayun Kabir. Prof. Ferdowsi Khatun, President of the History Department, delivered the welcome speech, while Omar Kabir Kumar, Vice President of the Association, expressed gratitude in the vote of thanks.

During the event, retired history department professor Chittaranjan Mishra received a lifetime achievement award for his remarkable contributions to history education and research. Additionally, Adila Akhter Nipa (2020) and Subasta Naeem (2021), who secured top positions in the graduation (honors) examination, were recognized as meritorious students.

Department teachers Dr. Shahina Akhtar and Dr. Hosne Ara Khanam hosted the event.

Before the official opening ceremony at 9:30 in the morning, the association’s president inaugurated the two-day conference by hoisting the flag, displaying the banner festoon, and releasing pigeons on the premises of the Muhammad Shahidullah Academic Building. Subsequently, under the president’s leadership, participants paid tribute to martyr Dr. Zoha Samadhi, offering a wreath there.
