‘Come After Lunch’ Woes: JNU Students Face Hassles at Exam Control Office

JNU Correspondent:

One of the major frustrations at Jagannath University’s administrative building is the infamous phrase, ‘Come after lunch.’ Over time, this has become a source of anxiety for students.

Although this inconvenience exists in various university departments, the phrase seems to have become an unwritten rule at the exam control office.

Reports suggest that students face numerous difficulties while trying to collect their undergraduate and postgraduate certificates. They encounter issues like staff arriving late, leaving early, and not receiving certificates on the promised date. When students try to address these concerns, they are often met with rude behavior from the staff. Many students have voiced their frustration at being subjected to such harassment when collecting their certificates.

Even after running from office to office, gathering signatures and clearances, the real trouble begins at the exam control office. Despite urgent needs, students are often told to ‘Come after lunch.’ However, even after waiting two hours post-lunch, the officials are nowhere to be found.

It has been learned that to collect a university certificate, a student must first visit their department for signatures, followed by clearance from the proctor’s office, and then from the university library. Only after all this can they apply for the certificate at the exam control office.

Once the application is submitted, the process takes three working days for urgent requests and seven working days for regular requests. However, in non-urgent cases, the office often fails to deliver the certificate within seven working days, taking even longer.

Affected students expressed their frustration: “We come to the university for certificates and important documents at the end of our studies. Some of us even take leave from work to come. When we arrive on time but don’t get the documents, the day is wasted. In the morning, the office assistants say the staff are out for breakfast, and in the afternoon, we are told it’s lunch. We want a quick resolution to this problem. It’s especially frustrating when you come after lunch and find the officials still eating at their desks or have gone out again for lunch.”

Multiple attempts to contact the university’s exam controller for a comment were unsuccessful as he did not answer calls or respond later.
