IU correspondent: Islamic University (IU) authorities have enforced disciplinary action against two students involved in a recent altercation at Lalon Shah Hall on campus in Kushtia. Jobayer Rahman Jyoti, a Public Administration student (2017-18), and Shakil Khan Shovon, enrolled in the Economics department (2017-18), have been subject to sanctions due to their alleged roles in the disruptive incident that occurred during the late hours of March 13th. The decision to penalize comes through an inquiry conducted by university officials, which was led by Provost Professor Dr. Akhtar Hossain.
As per sources familiar with the proceedings, Jobayer Rahman Jyoti, a resident of room 403 at Lalon Shah Hall, has had his residential privileges revoked under section 7(E) of the hall’s code of conduct. This action was taken in response to Jyoti’s alleged involvement in the altercation that led to disturbances within the hall premises.
In addition, attention has been drawn to Shakil Khan Shovon’s presence and actions during the incident, especially given his status as an unauthorized resident within the hall. The university administration has initiated inquiries to ascertain Shovon’s role and adherence to established regulations governing hall residency.
Dr. Akhtar Hossain, serving as the provost of Lalon Shah Hall, stated, “The university takes incidents of misconduct seriously, and appropriate measures have been taken to address the situation. Both parties involved will be duly informed of the consequences of their actions.”
The altercation, which occurred in the early hours of March 13th, reportedly involved clashes between roommates, with Jobayer Rahman Jyoti accusing Shakil Khan Shovon, Mehedi, Shahriar, and approximately 20-25 other students. In response, Shakil Khan Shovon alleged that he was targeted with a weapon and subjected to attempted assault by Jobayer Rahman Jyoti. Subsequently, both parties filed written complaints with the hall provost and proctor on the morning of March 13th, prompting the initiation of disciplinary proceedings.
