Active student organizations demand the universal provision of special food on Independence Day in Rajshahi University (RU) residential halls, on Wednesday (March 20).

In a joint statement, they said, ❝ Rajshahi University administration arranges special food only for resident students on the occasion of Independence Day. However, non-resident students not getting residency is also a failure of the university administration. Such discriminatory behavior of the university and hall administration raises the question, is Independence Day only for the resident students of the hall? This disparity proves that even though this administration talks about freedom, it does not want freedom to be universal. Every year non-resident students have to pay everything from internet fees to hall fees. ❞

In the press release, they also said that the university administration failed to provide regular accommodation to a large number of non-resident students, and such discriminatory behavior on various issues is creating anger and frustration among the students. We strongly condemn such discriminatory action by the university administration. In this situation, I call upon the university administration to ensure the participation of all students in the special meal for Independence Day by avoiding all kinds of costs and subsidizing it immediately.

In this joint statement, Fuad Ratul, convenor of the university branch of Socialist Student Front, Shakil Hossain, president of Revolutionary Student Alliance, Jannatul Naeem, convenor of the student union, Mehdi Hasan Munna, central coordinator of Citizen Student Union, Tarek Ashraf, convenor of Revolutionary Student-Youth Movement, Greater Chittagong Hill Tracts, Student council joint convener Samu Chakma and Chhatra Ganamanch coordinator Naseem Sarkar gave statement.
