Jerin Ferdous, Nstu Correspondent:
Students of Noakhali Science and Technology University (Nstu) are holding a protest rally for the second day demanding reform of quota system in government jobs.
On Wednesday (July 10) around 12:00 noon, the students started the movement by taking a position on the side of Sonapur Subarnachar road at the main gate of the university.
Earlier, around 11 am, students from all the halls started gathering at the central Shaheed Minar premises. Later, a huge procession circumambulated the halls and the entire campus and ended at the Shaheed Minar premises.
From the student rally, ‘Give news to the whole of Bengal, bury the quota system’, ‘The tool of eighteen, let it roar once more’, ‘Wake up, the student society has woken up’, ‘Quota not merit, merit merit’, ‘There is no place for discrimination in Bengal during the liberation war’. The entire campus became heated with such slogans.
Shakil Ahmed, who joined the quota reform movement, said that there is no shortage of educated youth in our country, but still the number of educated unemployed people is being increased by giving jobs through this quota. Who is responsible? I will continue this movement until the quota system is reformed.
Another student said, the freedom fighters did not make the country independent in the hope of getting quota, they did it to prevent discrimination. For their bravery we have given titles and allowances. Now my grandfather died before the liberation war, so why did he rise from the grave and not the liberation war, shall I give the answer? So why this quota?
The coordinator of the quota reform movement said, we are holding a protest program today in solidarity with the whole of Bangladesh. Our movement will continue in solidarity with the whole country until the quota reform is done.
